Hibernating animals are always interesting to young students. I have learned there are animals that hibernate completely “for the winter” and then there are animals who “sleep” mostly during the winter, but don’t actually hibernate.
Books about Hibernating Animals
I’m a beach girl. I like the sun and the water. We are lucky in Coastal Virginia, we only get snow every now and then.
BUT, I’m sure somewhere someone is reading this and it’s cold outside and maybe even snowing.
Choosing a book about hibernation can add to the fun. I LOVE the Bear books, so of course, Bear Sleeps On is a favorite.
I also think Hibernation Station is cute, as well. Most of the hibernation books can be used for an empathy or friendship theme.
Most of the picture books talk about bear being sleepy and wanting to go to sleep. Children can easily understand bears feelings and show empathy for his problem.
Other picture books can be about other forest animals missing their friend bear while he hibernates. Such fun connections for early learners.
