Long and Short Vowel Mats | Word Family Small Group and Centers

Description

Want a ready-made center for long and short vowel rime word families that can be hands-on and differentiated? Would you like your students to build words with hands-on manipulatives? Would you like a resource to use with magnet letters or letter tiles? Do you students struggle with phonological awareness and need helps with onset and rime? This is the set for you. Students will create and write rimes with automaticity and confidence.

Short Vowel set contains

• 34 word mats for short vowel words and
• 44 letter cards with single letters, blends, and digraphs

1. Students will take a card and the corresponding cookies to make the word family words. There will be one cookie leftover.
2. Using the recording sheet, students will write the number of the card, the words made with the cookies, and create a new word with the extra cookie.
3. Students can draw a picture, write a sentence, or both.
4. As an alternative, the mats can be laminated and students can use a dry erase marker.

Long Vowel set contains

• 32 word mats for long vowel words and
• 49 letter cards.

This set can be used many ways.

1. 32 Word Mats – Students can choose a mat and create 4 words in the word family.
2. Mats with Recording Form – Students build the word with the cards and letter tiles, then record the answers on a sheet to be turned in.
3. 120 Individual Word Cards – Students can select a word card and use the Ice cream sundae letter pieces to create the word family words.
